Amorim manager Manchester United

Ruben Amorim, the new head coach of Manchester United, believes that the club can be restored to its rightful place with his help.

Amorim landed in Manchester on Monday after it was announced that he would take over as Erik ten Hag’s successor.

He is the seventh manager to take the challenge of managing the club after Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013. United fans expected him to win major trophies but that has eluded the club for 10 years now.

In the past decade, no one has managed to get even close to winning the premier league title, or go past the quarter finals of the UEFA tournaments or even complete three seasons in the position.

Speaking in public yesterday for the first time since being in the UK, Amorim formerly the head coach of Sporting Lisbon told the club media that “he is unpopular at the British side and that will change over time.”

”I will try to do everything to put this club in the place that it belongs,” he said, “and I believe a lot that we are going to succeed.

Amorim and his family were in a different dressing room located under the stand at Old Trafford when he met players, Club officials and fans who were on a tour of the stadium

He has even tried to get to grips with the club's history. Not only the impressive 20 English championships and three European Cups but also the struggles starting with the Munich tragedy and then the rebuilding phase led by Sir Matt Busby.

Most fans of the club would not have been around when that happened, Amorim however thinks it is essential for players to appreciate the history and significance of the club they represent.

"You see the trophies and you see the tragedy that we have as a club," he said. "You understand the history, after the crash, then we were European champions. It is important to put this kind of strength in the team.

"Players coming here have to see the same tour. It is very important. One has to feel that this is Manchester United."

As for the players he has seen earlier in the week, which included Windy Poll and Helloengg scores which were all engaged in rehabilitation, it will be next week before Amorim will be saying that he is going to work.
